Since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917, youth and the Red Cross have been partners. Today, the involvement of young people with the Red Cross is more important than ever. Our goal is to provide young people with meaningful opportunities for education, training, and volunteer/community service so that they remain a part of the Red Cross family throughout their lives.
Are you interested in helping others and making your community a better place to live? There are many ways to get involved: join a Red Cross club at your local school or simply check out our volunteer opportunities and use your energy and talents to help your community.
Current Youth Clubs
American Red Cross Clubs are school-based organizations that are led and run by students. Clubs organize and participate in projects that benefit their communities and schools. There are four active Red Cross Clubs in the greater Lehigh Valley: Emmaus High School, Lehighton High School, Moravian Academy and Parkland High School.
Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for a way to give back to your community? Become an American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley volunteer! We can offer you rewarding experiences, whatever your schedule. Think you don't have the skills to offer? You'd be surprised! Here's a list of our current volunteer opportunities.
- Office Support - Youth can enjoy the first-hand experience of working in an office setting, honing communications skills, organization techniques and computer aptitude.
- Creative Writer - If you love to write, the Red Cross can give you the opportunity to indulge your creative side. Writers will attend youth events and use their experiences to write articles for our newsletters and Web site.
- Photographer - Grab your camera and get ready to capture Red Cross moments. Whether you are a regular behind the lens, or just a beginner, the Red Cross is looking for a volunteer to photograph community youth events. These pictures will appear in our newsletters and on our Web site, and they make a great addition to a portfolio.
- Blood Services - If you're at least 17 years of age, or 16 with a parent's consent, you can save up to three lives by donating blood. Volunteers are also needed to hand out snacks and beverages to recent donors. It only takes a small part of your day to make a world of difference.
- Web Design Development - Do you understand and enjoy Web design? We could use your expertise in helping us keep our Web site exciting and up to date.
- Activities Director - At Zephyr Apartments in Whitehall, you'll have the chance to spearhead and organize games and activities with senior residents. Immediate opening, contact us for more information.
- Instructor - Have you ever thought of being a teacher? Well, if you're at least 17 years of age, here is a great opportunity to get your feet wet by volunteering your time as an American Red Cross instructor. You'll have the opportunity to teach others Basic First Aid, CPR, Babysitting, or Lifeguard skills.
- Instructor aide - Are you 11 to 16 years of age? Did you take any Red Cross training courses? Put your training to use and assist Red Cross Instructors.
