Youth Services

Since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917, youth and the Red Cross have been partners. Today, the involvement of young people with the Red Cross is more important than ever. Our goal is to provide young people with meaningful opportunities for education, training, and volunteer/community service so that they remain a part of the Red Cross family throughout their lives.

Are you interested in helping others and making your community a better place to live? There are many ways to get involved: join a Red Cross club at your local school or simply check out our volunteer opportunities and use your energy and talents to help your community.

Current Youth Clubs
American Red Cross Clubs are school-based organizations that are led and run by students. Clubs organize and participate in projects that benefit their communities and schools. There are three active Red Cross Clubs in the greater Lehigh Valley: Central Catholic High School, Emmaus High School and Parkland High School.

Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for a way to give back to your community? Become an American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley volunteer! We can offer you rewarding experiences, whatever your schedule. Think you don't have the skills to offer? You'd be surprised! Here's a list of our current volunteer opportunities.

  • Office Support - There are plenty of volunteer opportunities right at our chapter. Youth can be trained to answer phones, file or do computer work.
  • Special Projects - Youth services works in cooperation with different groups and organizations in the community that need volunteers. Opportunities include working at soup kitchens, clothing collection sites, elementary schools, and at senior citizen centers. If there is a project you have in mind, we'd love to help you carry it out!
  • Blood Services - Do you go to school in Carbon County? If so, there are plenty of opportunities to hold and run a blood drive at your school or, if you're 17 years old, you can become a blood donor!
  • Web Design Development - Do you understand and enjoy Web design? We could use your expertise in helping us keep our Web site exciting and up to date.
  • Youth and Peer-to-Peer Education - We offer many classes for children and teenagers:
    • F.A.C.T. (First Aid for Children Today) - Teaches children grades K-5 simple first aid and self care techniques.
    • B.A.T. (Basic Aid Training) - Teaches children grades 6-8 first aid and self care techniques.
    • Whales Tales - Teaches children about water safety in a classroom environment (no in-water instruction).
