Babysitter's Training

This course provides youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe; help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid.

Topics include

  • Recognizing emergencies and applying the emergency action steps
  • The importance of play for children's growth and development
  • Assessing babysitting skills, finding work, interviewing and professional behavior
  • Preventing common injuries and illness
  • Safe techniques for feeding, diapering and caring for infants
Prerequisite: Students must be 11 years old by the last day of class.
