On Feb. 17, Erie Insurance donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley to aid victims in the wake of the tragic Allentown gas explosion and fire on Feb. 9. The donation will also support ongoing disaster assistance in the community.

"Erie Insurance was one of the first companies to contribute to the Red Cross following the Feb. 9 tragedy. We are deeply grateful to Erie for their quick response and generous donation," said Regional Executive John R. Hughes.

Erie's $10,000 donation helps enable the Red Cross to immediately respond to emergencies with temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other basic essentials.

"Erie has been a long-standing partner of the Red Cross and their commitment to helping those in need is invaluable," said Hughes. "From donations of comfort kits filled with toiletry items for disaster clients to volunteering at the Red Cross during Day of Caring, and now this latest donation, I can't praise and thank Erie agents and employees enough."

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves residents of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross helped more than 76,500 people through preparedness and training, military personnel support, senior lifesaving programs and services, emergency relief and information and referral. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
