The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will hold free Citizen CPR classes on Thursday, May 5, at the Business 2 Business Expo being held at Westgate Mall, 2285 Schoenersville Road in Bethlehem. The 30-minute classes are sponsored by Air Products.

Class-size is limited to 15 participants per class and will be held at the top of each hour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. To pre-register, contact the Red Cross at 610-865-4400, ext. 247, or at GLVPT@usa.redcross.org. Include your full name, address and preferred class time. Walk-ups are welcome. Participants should wear comfortable clothing to kneel on the floor.

The hands-only CPR is a potentially lifesaving technique involving no mouth-to-mouth contact. It is best used in emergencies where bystanders may witness another person collapse. The hands-only technique increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac emergencies that occur outside medical settings. This year, the national American Red Cross has launched an initiative to train 5 million people in hands-only CPR.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves residents of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross helped more than 76,500 people through preparedness and training, military personnel support, senior lifesaving programs and services, emergency relief and information and referral. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
