The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, in partnership with the Lehigh Valley Mall and Air Products, will host free Citizen CPR classes on Saturday, March 12. The 30-minute classes will be held in the Macy's Court, first floor of the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall.

The hands-only CPR is a potentially lifesaving technique involving no mouth to mouth contact. It is best used in emergencies where bystanders may witness another person collapse. The hands-only technique increases the likelihood of surviving cardiac emergencies that occur outside medical settings. This year, the national American Red Cross has launched an initiative to train 5 million people in hands-only CPR.

Class-size is limited to 15 participants per class and will be held at 11 a.m, noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

To register, contact the Red Cross at 610-865-4400, ext. 247, or GLVPT@usa.redcross.org by March 10. Include your full name, address and preferred class time.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing to kneel on the floor and practice chest compressions on a manikin.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves residents of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross helped more than 76,500 people through preparedness and training, military personnel support, senior lifesaving programs and services, emergency relief and information and referral. The Red Cross is a charitable organization - not a government agency - and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
