From March 2 to 23, the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will conduct its second annual Heroes for the American Red Cross campaign.
Heroes for the American Red Cross is a grassroots campaign in which school groups, faith-based groups, civic clubs, local business people, and individuals pledge to raise $1,000 through any legal means they choose for the local Red Cross. Fund-raising ideas may include high school service clubs holding a dance-a-thon, faith-based groups holding a yard sale or bake sale, or companies holding "dress-down days."
"'Heroes' is an easy and fun way for our community to take part in helping to raise funds for the Red Cross," said John R. Hughes, executive director of the Red Cross. "More than $21,000 was raised in our first campaign, thanks to an energetic and enthusiastic team of heroes. We're confident that this year's campaign will be even better."
John Conklin, Northampton County Administrator, is campaign chair for Lehigh and Northampton counties.
"My direct experience with the Greater Lehigh Valley Red Cross dates back 10 years. The outstanding community preparedness training and emergency response work of the staff and volunteers often goes unsung until their services are needed," Conklin said. "In times of despair, thank goodness we have the kind-hearted and well-trained personnel of our local Red Cross to rely upon. I am honored to have been asked to lead this year's fund-raising initiative for the two counties."
All "Heroes" who register by Feb. 26 will have their photo, name or logo included in ads sponsored by The Morning Call and The Express-Times. All "Heroes" are invited to a kick-off breakfast on March 2 and celebration wrap-up luncheon.
