Second Grade: Victoria Aten of Zionsville, St. Ann Elementary School in Emmaus

Fourth Grade: Olivia Keys of Macungie, St. Ann Elementary School in Emmaus

Fifth Grade: Nicole Snover of Cherryville, Bethlehem Christian School, Calvary Campus in Bethlehem

Sixth Grade: Bayley Carl of Emmaus, St. Ann Elementary School in Emmaus.

Winners were recognized at a Red Cross Community Event held at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall on Saturday. Winning students received a framed certificate, a copy of their winning drawing, a Red Cross backpack filled with first aid items, flashlight, water bottle, T-shirt and a host of other Red Cross items.

“We were extremely pleased with the volume of entries we received,” said John Hughes, executive director of the Greater Lehigh Valley Red Cross. “It is inspiring to see how well the students expressed their understanding of the work of the Red Cross. Hopefully we will see a new generation of Red Cross volunteers working for their communities.”

“American Red Cross helps people during disasters” was the focus of the students’ artwork. The contest, held in commemoration of March is Red Cross Month, drew 356 entries from students in grades 1 – 6 in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Students at Panther Valley Elementary School in Nesquehoning submitted the greatest number of drawings.

“March is Red Cross Month” is a time to honor and thank the members of the Red Cross family and remind people that the Red Cross is where Americans can make a difference. Through this contest, the American Red Cross strived to educate teachers and students about the work of the humanitarian organization.
