Give a little of yourself this summer by donating blood at the Carbon County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 3 to 7 p.m.

The American Red Cross bloodmobile will be located at the fair’s entrance at 3825 Little Gap Road in Palmerton.

“We are so grateful to Fair President Bob Silliman and the board for hosting a Red Cross blood drive,” said Sharon Kendig, Carbon County branch manager for the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley. “During the summer months, blood donations tend to drop because of vacations and other activities, but the need for blood remains constant. You never know when you or someone you love may require blood.”

As a special thank you for taking the time to donate blood and helping to save lives, all presenting donors at the fair will automatically receive a free collectible T-shirt, be entered to win a VIP Package to the Aug. 24 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees game and weekly drawings for a $25 VISA Gift Card.

Anyone who is at least 17 years old, who weighs at least 110 pounds, and is healthy may give blood or platelets. With the submission of a signed parental consent form, 16-year-olds who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health also can donate blood. Parental consent forms are available from nurse supervisors at Red Cross drives.

Can’t make the scheduled blood collection dates in your area? Not a problem. Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) to schedule a donation appointment at your convenience.
