The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will hold the following blood drives in Carbon County in May:

Thursday, May 1, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Nesquehoning Recreation Center, 353 West Railroad Street, Nesquehoning; and

Thursday, May 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Split Rock Resort, Lake Drive, Lake Harmony.

In honor of Mother’s Day and as a thank you for helping save lives by donating blood, all presenting donors in the month of May 2008 will automatically be entered into the “2008 Mom’s Wish” drawing to win a $250 Visa gift card. Anyone who is at least 17 years old, who weighs at least 110 pounds, and is healthy may give blood or platelets. With the submission of a signed parental consent form, 16-year-olds who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in good health also can donate blood. Parental consent forms are available from nurse supervisors at Red Cross drives. Can’t make the scheduled blood collection dates in your area? Not a problem. Call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) to schedule a donation appointment at your convenience.
