As greater Lehigh Valley residents ring in the New Year, the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley encourages everyone to resolve to do something that will keep their loved ones safer and bring peace of mind. Resolve to Be Red Cross Ready in 2008 by taking three simple actions to prepare for disaster and other emergencies: 1) Get a kit, 2) Make a plan, and 3) Be informed.

“Preparing for disasters ahead of time helps people stay safer and empowers them to be better able to respond to disasters and other life-threatening emergencies,” said John R. Hughes, executive director. “The Red Cross is here to help ensure that getting better prepared is a resolution you can keep.”

A free online education module is available at www.redcross.org/BeRedCrossReady to guide users through the three preparedness actions. The 10-minute presentation, which is available in English and Spanish, includes a downloadable disaster supplies kit checklist and emergency contact card.
