Take a Lifesaving Class This December

Are you prepared to respond to an injured person immediately and with the confidence that comes from being trained in lifesaving first aid and CPR? To better equip the community for life-threatening emergencies, the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley is hosting first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) classes throughout the month of December.

Standard First Aid Classes will be held December 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and December 14, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The course teaches how to recognize and care for victims of injury or sudden illness plus how to treat cuts, bruises, bone and muscle injuries, shock, bleeding and other first aid emergencies. Fee is $37.

Standard First Aid with Adult CPR and AED Classes will be held December 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and December 17 and 19, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., each evening. In addition to first aid skills, this course teaches rescue breathing, choking rescue and adult one-rescuer CPR. You will also learn how to use an AED for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Fee is $60.

Adult CPR and AED Classes will be held December 10 and 12, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., each evening and December 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This course teaches participants to recognize and respond to symptoms of a heart attack; when and how to do CPR on adults (individuals 12 years of age or older); choke rescue and rescue breathing; and how to use an AED for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Fee is $45.

Adult and Child CPR with AED Class will be held December 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with Adult CPR and AED training, participants will learn how to perform CPR and use an AED correctly on a child. Fee is $56.

Infant and Child CPR with AED Class will be held on December 1, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Designed for childcare providers, parents, and others who care for children, this course teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 12 years old. Child AED training is also included in this course. Fee is $56.

Adult, Child and Infant CPR with AED Class will be held December 15, from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This class teaches rescue breathing; choking rescue; adult, child and infant CPR and AED skills; accessing Emergency Medical Services (EMS); and how to prevent heart disease. Fee is $65.

Standard First Aid with Adult, Child, and Infant CPR plus AED Class will be held December 12 and 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., each evening. This class includes training to recognize emergencies and provide basic first aid until medical personnel arrive and take over. It also prepares individuals to provide care for breathing emergencies and perform CPR on adults, infants, and children. AED training is also included. Fee is $75.
