American Red Cross Offers Two International Services Classes

Did you know there are currently 181 Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies throughout the world? Each is prepared to respond immediately to natural disasters, human-caused disasters and to help those in need. To learn more about international Red Cross services, the public is invited to attend two classes offered by the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley:

Humanity in the Midst of War: International Humanitarian Law (IHL), which focuses on the body of rules and principles that seeks to limit the conduct of war and protect the victims of armed conflict, and the unique role of the Red Cross on behalf of victims of war, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and again on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

American Red Cross International Services: An Overview, which discusses the historic roots of American Red Cross involvement overseas, family tracing and other international social services, and international relief and development, will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon; and again on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Classes are free and open to the public. Classes are taught by a Red Cross-trained instructor and held at the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, 2200 Avenue A, Bethlehem.

Register online at www.redcrosslv.org or call (610) 865-4400, ext. 247. In order to ensure sufficient training materials, it is requested that registrations be submitted at least one week prior to the class.
