What if your father, daughter, or neighbor suddenly needed blood? You would want blood to be available, wouldn't you? Of course you would.

Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. However, only a small percentage of those who are eligible to donate blood actually give blood.

You can change all that. All it takes is about an hour of your time. Simply make an appointment or visit a local blood drive. You may be surprised how good you'll feel inside knowing that you've helped someone's mom, newborn or best friend.

Your opportunity to donate blood in Carbon County is Monday, March 27, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Nesquehoning Recreational Center, W. Railroad Street, Nesquehoning. If you can't attend, call for an appointment or visit the blood collection sites in April (to be announced).

Anyone who is at least 17 years old, who weighs at least 110 pounds, and is in good health may give blood. For more information, contact the Carbon County office of the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley at (610) 377-2100 or call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves more than 660,000 residents of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross provided health and safety education training; Lifeline, a personal response service for seniors; and emergency relief to more than 20,000 Greater Lehigh Valley residents.
