The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will pay special tribute to its nearly 100 Carbon County Red Cross volunteers on Tuesday, April 26, in recognition of National Volunteer Week.
Fifty volunteers are expected to attend a luncheon at the Lehighton Borough Annex, 110 N. Third Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch is being donated by Blue Mountain Health System. A clarinet trio from Lehighton Middle School will provide entertainment.
“Red Cross volunteers in Carbon County have supported local blood drives for many, many years, providing thousands of people with the gift of life. Others are donating their time and expertise to teaching lifesaving skills like CPR, first aid, babysitter’s training and aquatics safety,” said Bob Duld, director of volunteer and community services for the local Red Cross.
“Volunteers are very special people -- people who give because they want to, expecting nothing in return. Their willing hearts are a treasure and an inspiration. Volunteers make it possible for the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley to fulfill its mission to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
“Right now we have a great need for volunteers to help provide disaster relief assistance, teach health and safety classes, assist with blood drives and fulfill a host of other duties,” said Duld. “We want Carbon County residents to feel a much stronger Red Cross presence in their community.”
To volunteer, contact Bob Duld at (610) 865-4400, ext. 229.
