The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will hold the following Health and Safety classes at its Carbon Office in Lehighton in September. For a complete list of Red Cross classes for the fall, pick up a schedule at the Lehighton office or visit www.redcrosslv.org.

Adult CPR - Sept. 20 and 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (must attend both evenings). This course is designed for individuals who need adult CPR training only. The course uses hands-on skills training to prepare participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults. Included in the course is training in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This course applies to victims over 8 years of age.
Fee: $40

Adult CPR with First Aid - Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and illnesses until advanced medical professionals arrive and take over. The class covers first aid and adult CPR and training in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). This course applies to victims over 8 years of age.
Fee: $55

Babysitter's Training - Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This course will provide individuals, ages 11-15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of a parent. Students will develop skills in five main areas: leadership, safety and safe play, basic care, first aid, and professionalism. This course does not include training in CPR.
Fee: $40

CPR for the Professional Rescuer - Sept. 6 and 7, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (must attend both evenings). This course is designed for people who have a job-related duty to respond in an emergency, including nurses, law enforcement and EMS personnel, fire fighters, business and industry response teams, lifeguards, flight attendants, and others who must take action in emergency situations. Skills include rescue breathing, conscious/unconscious choking, as well as one- and two-person CPR and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Rescuers will learn how to use a pocket mask, a bag valve mask and alternative methods for opening the airways of a victim with possible head or spinal injuries. This course does not include first aid training. (This course is equivalent to the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course).

First Aid Basics - Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will become familiar with how to recognize and care for victims of illness and sudden injuries. This class does not include CPR/AED.
Fee: $36

Classes will be held at the Red Cross office located at 129 N. First Street, Lehighton. Textbooks are included in the price of the courses and will be distributed on the day of the class.
