Greater Lehigh Valley Red Cross Elects New Chairman, Officers and 4 Board Members

Robert McGovern was elected chairman of the board for the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley effective Oct. 1, 2005, at the organization’s annual business meeting held today (9/28). McGovern will serve a one-year term from 2005-2006. He succeeds Chairman Joseph Stockunas of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.

McGovern, former banking executive for Keystone Nazareth Bank & Trust, and Red Cross leadership volunteer for more than 20 years, served most recently as the chapter’s board vice chair.

Officers elected to serve with McGovern for 2005-2006 are: George Hlavac, attorney at law for Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino, vice chair; John Yanek, director-safety operations, technical training and health services for PPL Corp., secretary; and Thomas Brown, vice president and chief financial officer for The Morning Call, treasurer.

The following individuals were elected to the board for a three-year term effective Oct. 1: Brad Greenawald, financial advisor for Legg Mason; Nathan Jameson, assistant director for acquisition and development for Traditions of America; Dhwani Pandya, senior at Parkland High School, who will fulfill one of two youth board positions; and Craig Poliner, president of MedEscort International.

Board members re-elected to a second three-year term were: Peter Brown, vice president-sales program manager for Harleysville National Bank; and Frank DiBiaso, vice president-financial services for Blue Mountain Health System.

In addition, five outgoing board members were recognized for their contributions to the Red Cross: Ben Boylston, community volunteer; Richard Perrotti, senior branch manager-Eastern PA for Legg Mason; Charmaine Rundle, LPN; Judy Savchak, Harleysville Wealth Management; and Patti Gates Smith, community volunteer.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves more than 660,000 residents of Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross provided health and safety education training; Lifeline, a personal response service for seniors; and emergency relief to more than 20,000 Greater Lehigh Valley residents.
