The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will kick off its Lifeguard Training season with its first training class at Muhlenberg College in Allentown June 7-11, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Lifeguard Training course, taught by Red Cross-certified water safety instructors, teaches candidates the skills and knowledge needed by professional lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies at swimming pool facilities.
Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, participants will learn:
-- Surveillance skills to help recognize and prevent injuries,
-- Rescue skills — in the water and on land,
-- First aid training and professional rescuer CPR — to help be prepared for any emergency, and
-- Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons.
Candidates must be at least 15 years old before the final day of class and must successfully complete a skills pre-test on the first day of class. You must attend each scheduled class in order to qualify for certification.
Cost for the class is $140. Register today; space is limited. To secure a place in the class, please register at least 7 days prior to the start date of the class.
