The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Alcoa Foundation (Pittsburgh) to aid Lehigh Valley victims of widespread flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ivan.
“Red Cross is extremely grateful to Alcoa for their very generous grant,” said Executive Director John Hughes. “To date, nearly $44,000 in Red Cross disaster relief assistance has been provided to Lehigh Valley families to meet their immediate emergency needs from last month’s flood. The grant is part of a longstanding commitment that Alcoa Foundation has of providing support to victims of natural disasters in Alcoa communities worldwide. The Lehigh Valley is fortunate to have Alcoa as a corporate leader and supporter.”
Alcoa employs 138 people at Howmet Castings in Bethlehem, a world-class manufacturer of aluminum investment castings for the aerospace and electronic packaging industries as well as for optoelectronic devices and missile components.
“We saw that our community needed help, and we wanted to reach out to our neighbors,
said Plant Manager Paul Roamer. “Alcoa Foundation offers support to Alcoa communities worldwide, and we saw that our community was in need of support.”
