The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley elected Suzanne M. Garszczynski, Ph.D, FACHE, vice president-professional services and clinical director of laboratory services at Palmerton Hospital, to a three-year term as a member of the chapter's board of directors, effective November 19, 2003.
"Sue’s extensive medical background, experience in risk management and emergency planning, and proven marketing expertise make her an ideal addition to the board as Red Cross continues to increase its emergencies preparedness outreach throughout Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties,” said Joseph Stockunas, chairman of the board. “We are extremely delighted to have someone of her caliber as a member of the Red Cross family."
Garszczynski joins 26 other community leaders in three counties who serve on the board.
A resident of Palmerton, Garszczynski has been director of professional services and clinical director of laboratory services at Palmerton Hospital since 1974 and vice president of
professional services since 1998. She currently hosts the hospital’s weekly cable television show, “Health Images.” She was a former adjunct professor at St. Joseph’s University Graduate School of Business in Philadelphia and a clinical chemist and nursing school instructor at St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Reading.
Garszczynski’s professional affiliations include Fellow at American College of Healthcare Executives, member of the American Hospital Association, the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control, American Association for Clinical Chemistry and other organizations. Locally, she is a member and past president of the Palmerton Visiting Nurses’ Association, the Palmerton Environmental Task Force and an appointee of the Local Emergency Planning Committee of Carbon County.
She holds a doctorate in biochemistry from Villanova University, a master’s degree in marketing from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.
The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves more than 660,000 residents in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross provided health and safety education training and emergency relief services to more than 20,000 Greater Lehigh Valley residents.
