American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley wants to help make the holidays a bit brighter for local families of active-duty military personnel.
Through Valley Wide Help, the agency’s information and referral service, the Red Cross will link the families of active-duty military personnel with individuals, churches, employee groups, and other agencies who may wish to provide holiday cheer for military families who may be without their loved one this holiday season.
Here’s how the program works: All active-duty military families in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties and donors and donor groups who want to participate in the “Red Cross Military Family Holiday Cheer Campaign” are encouraged to call Red Cross Valley Wide Help at (610) 332-1589, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Red Cross Valley Wide Help will link donors with families. Donors will then contact their “linked” families regarding their holiday wishes.
Military ID will be required by families when calling to register. There will be no exceptions.
Deadline for registration for the “Red Cross Military Family Holiday Cheer Campaign” is Dec. 18. This program is sponsored in part by a grant by the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.
Please note that the Department of Defense has advised the American Red Cross to refrain from collecting and shipping items to support U.S. troops for security reasons.
