The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley will receive a $4,210 donation from the local Aid Association for Lutherans/Lutheran Brotherhood (AAL/LB), the largest fraternal benefit society in the United States. The donation is being given to Red Cross for providing basic human needs such as clothing, food, and shelter for people affected by disaster.

Media are invited to attend the check presentation to be held Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Red Cross branch office, 129 N. First Street in Lehighton. Attending the presentation will be John R. Hughes, executive director of the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley; Cal Schneider, agency fraternal specialist; Gladys Hontz, AAL/LB agency disaster coordinator for Carbon County; and two district representatives, Scott Edelman and Lori Buck, with Wangerin & Associates of AAL/LB, a fraternal benefit society.

Through the AAL/LB's Disaster Response Program, emergency disaster relief organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Salvation Army are eligible to receive donations to help defray costs associated with supporting families in times of disaster.

During the past nine years, AAL/LB's branch, member and home office efforts have provided over $21 million for areas devastated by disasters. Nearly 3 million people are members of this financial and charitable organization.

The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley serves more than 660,000 residents in Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Last year the Red Cross provided health and safety education training and emergency relief services to more than 15,700 greater Lehigh Valley residents.
