The American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley in partnership with Third Street Alliance for Women and Children in Easton will offer a program to enhance the safety skills and knowledge of child-care providers in the Lehigh Valley. The "Child-Care Training Blitz" will be held Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Third Street Alliance, 41 N. Third Street in Easton.
"The goal of this jointly sponsored program is to improve the health and welfare of children attending day-care in the greater Lehigh Valley," said Joy Zukauskas, manager of Health & Safety Marketing and Community Programs for the local Red Cross. "On an average day in the greater Lehigh Valley, 17,000 children ages six weeks to 10 years of age attend day-care. Enhancing the skills and knowledge of child-care employees, with nationally recognized Red Cross training will create a healthier and safer environment for children."
Trained Red Cross instructors will facilitate sessions in "Infant & Child CPR and First Aid" from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and "Community Water Safety" from 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Red Cross course requirements include a structured Red Cross curriculum and competency testing. Red Cross certification will be issued for those who meet curriculum standards. Cost per person is $20 to attend one of the sessions.
Attendees should bring a lunch.
Registrations are limited. Pre-registration is required by May 23; payment must be made at time of registration. To register or more for information, call the local American Red Cross at (610) 865-4400, ext. 246.
