Did you know one blood donation may help save as many as four different lives? It's true.
"When a single donation is manufactured into red cells, plasma, platelets and cryoprecipitate, as many as four different patients may be helped," said Molly Groody, communications specialist for the American Red Cross Northeastern Pennsylvania Blood Services Region. "Every minute of every day, donated blood helps save lives. Accident victims, cancer patients -- someone's child, someone's parent, someone's friend … all need blood."
The American Red Cross bloodmobile will visit two locations in Carbon County during March.
Following are the days, times and locations:
Wednesday, March 27, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. -- Gnaden Heutten Hospital Conference Center, Sixth and Iron streets in Lehighton
Thursday, March 28, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. -- Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall, East 10th Street, Jim Thorpe.
American Red Cross Blood Services, Northeastern Pennsylvania Region (NEPA), supplies 41 hospitals with blood and blood products in 21 counties in Pennsylvania and three in New York.
Most healthy people who are at least 17 years of age, and who weigh 105 pounds or more, are eligible to donate blood. Donors are required to wait 56 days between donations. For more information, please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE. Please bring some form of ID.
