Students at Lower Milford Elementary School, Coopersburg, are providing "comfort" to Lehigh Valley families who may face a disaster such as a fire or flood in their homes.

Fourth-grade students will be assembling American Red Cross Comfort Kits -a plastic bag filled with toiletry items - that will be ready for distribution by the Red Cross to Lehigh Valley families displaced from their homes because of a natural or man-made disaster.

Tomorrow (12/19) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., about 50 students from two fourth-grade classes and a number of parents will assemble the kits in the school's cafeteria. Their goal is to donate 30 complete kits.

Each Comfort Kit contains the following items donated by students and parents: a small bar of soap, a new washcloth, a small black comb, a toothbrush, a small bottle of shampoo, a small toothpaste, a child's activity book, crayons and unsharpened pencils. The Lehigh Valley Chapter, American Red Cross is supplying the Comfort Kit bags.

"Our students are real excited about this project," said Chris Bonsall, fourth-grade teacher and co-coordinator of the school project. "This time of year, especially during the holidays, is one of giving and our students are happy to be able to help Lehigh Valley residents who may need disaster relief."

"The Red Cross is very grateful for the support shown by the students and parents of Lower Milford Elementary School to the victims of disasters," said Bob Duld, director of Volunteer Services for the Lehigh Valley American Red Cross. "Generosity such as this allows the American Red Cross to provide its relief services to disaster victims."

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary gifts of time and money from the American people.
