Medication Dispensing Service

Medication Dispenser The Philips Medication Dispensing Service helps you take medications at pre-programmed times, from convenient pre-filled dosage cups. The service works by dispensing the medication you've pre-loaded, at the times you've scheduled. This helps to reduce complications from incorrect medication use.

The Philips Medication Dispensing Service (PMD) combines an automated medication dispenser with 24-hour monitoring and adherence reporting.

Like falls, medication non-adherence poses significant risks to seniors. Approximately 1 in 10 hospital admissions are due to misuse of medications, and 40% of nursing home admissions are associated with non-adherence. For these reasons, medication management is a very relevant topic.

The Philips Medication Dispensing Service is the only service with a 98.6% dispensing adherence level among monitored subscribers. In addition, PMD can help reduce the risk of unnecessary medical complications and unplanned re-hospitalization due to non-adherence. This level of effectiveness reflects the fact that this is a comprehensive service that integrates accurate dispensing with caregiver engagement and addresses multiple aspects of medication non-adherence.

The service can accommodate very complex medication regimens, even when no one is present to help.

The dispenser:
  • Holds up to 60 cups of medication
  • Houses anywhere from 1 to 40 days of medicine
  • Dispenses up to 6 times each day

  • To help patients take medications properly, clients may also choose from a list of 23 prerecorded reminder messages, such as "take medicine with food," "take your insulin," "take your eye drops" or "check blood pressure."

PMD also delivers several important safety features, including a locking dispensing cabinet and PRN (on-demand) functionality, both of which are designed to help reduce the potentially serious consequences of inappropriate access and to prevent possible over dosing of medications.

Finally, caregivers receive alerts when clients or loved ones miss medications, empowering them to respond promptly and avoid interruption to medication regimens.
