The purpose of this course is to teach individuals how to recognize, prevent, and respond to emergencies in, on, or around the water. Participants will learn how to identify the hazards and risks that are present in an aquatic environment and discuss safety tips that will help them remain safe in, on, or around the water. Specific environments will be discussed such as home pools, lakes and rivers, spas, and waterparks. The participants will be able to identify and practice important basic lifesaving techniques that can be used to help someone who is in trouble in the water. The benefits of learning how to swim and identify positive ways that parents and caregivers can prepare their child for a positive swimming lesson experience will also be examined.
